Wrestle Dirt is back with another fix of news, notes and tidbits in the world of women’s wrestling.

New names are set to debut for SHINE Wrestling at their fourth event on October 19 at The Orpheum: SHIMMER stars Davina Rose, Kellie Skater, Shazza McKenzie and Rhia O’Reilly, as well as wrestling veteran Brandi Wine.

It’s also worth noting that Hailey Hatred is also featured prominently on the show poster, but has not yet been announced for the show itself. Should she be confirmed for the show, she would also be another new debutante.

In Kellie Skater news, she has also been confirmed for the SHIMMER tapings that will take place on October 27 and 28.

 

She joins the likes of SHIMMER Champion Saraya Knight, SHIMMER Tag Team Champions Nicole Matthews and Portia Perez, Cheerleader Melissa, MsChif, Mercedes Martinez, Allison Danger, Leva Bates, Hiroyo Matsumoto, Ryo Mizunami, Kana, Tomoka Nakagawa, Athena, Christina Von Eerie, Allysin Kay, and Yumi Ohka as already announced talent.

 

She’ll also appear on iPPV the day after SHINE 4 – October 20 – for CWF Mid-Atlantic, appearing in a special “ArenaChicks” match against Sassy Stephie, as well as wrestling in their 12th annual CWF Rumble.

Michelle K Hasluck and Rachel Rose have been added to the PWWA show taking place on October 6th at the Casula Powerhouse.

The full card for Bombshell Ladies of Wrestling (now distancing itself from its unfortunate initials) debut show on October 11th has been released. Many of the matches taking place will be a round one match as part of their Sweet Sixteen title tournament.

On September 22, Kimber Lee and Kacee Carlisle became the new Dynamite Championship Wrestling Tag Team Champions.

 

The event took place in Delaware and was a benefit for breast cancer.

On September 23, AIW held an event called “Point Break” at the Turners Hall in Cleveland, Ohio.

 

Veda Scott defeated Mia Yim in singles action, while Allysin Kay retained her AIW Women’s Title over “Crazy” Mary Dobson after Sammy Geodollno attacked Mary.

 

Seleziya Sparx and Veronica (from CHIKARA) both made appearances managing Ethan Page and The Batiri, respectively.

Upcoming Ring Of Honor TV Spoilers

Ring of Honor taped for upcoming episodes of TV at the DuBurns Arena in Baltimore, MD. Currently, there’s no word on when these episodes will broadcast or which episodes these events will take place on.

* In a dark match, Veda Scott and Ryan McBride defeated Marti Belle and Matthew Justice.

* Davey Richards defeated Mike Bennett in a Survival of the Fittest bout after Mike Mondo came out and kissed Maria Kanellis, distracting Bennett and allowing Richards to nail him for the win.

Just Who Benefits From Kaitlyn's Injury?

The most obvious suspect in the vicious attack on the ex-NXT star is Eve, who eventually replaced the original challenger and went on to defeat Layla and claim the Divas Title at Night of Champions. The cunning Assistant to SmackDown General Manager Booker T has certainly shown shrewdness in her past attempts at power grabbing, and eliminating the threat of Kaitlyn from the championship picture would have been a stroke of genius, and certainly not beyond the devious nature of the stunning Diva. And, with her newly formed connection to Booker T, Eve was in the perfect position to insert herself into the Divas Title Match at Night of Champions — an opportunity that she took full advantage of with a huge win over Layla.

A less obvious suspect may be the Diva Kaitlyn was scheduled to face off against for the title, now-former champion Layla. It’s true that the English-born Diva’s friendship with Kaitlyn has always seemed to be genuine. On the other hand, could this have been a case of putting the title before a friend? It certainly has happened before in WWE, proving time and again just how precious championship reigns are.

Even though Eve denied any involvement in the attack on Kaitlyn during the Sept. 21 edition of SmackDown, she is likely to remain the prime suspect. Still, as the WWE Universe is well aware, things are very rarely as they seem when it comes to such matters. If we start to peel the layers of this mystery onion, the short list of potential attackers and plotters begins to grow.

So who else has a grudge against Kaitlyn? The answers might just surprise you.

Looking Deeper Into Kaitlyn's Attack

Take Natalya, for instance. The resident technician of the Divas division expressed her complaints on Twitter about Kaitlyn’s ascension to No. 1 contender, saying that the Divas Battle Royal winner didn’t deserve such vaunted status. Natalya is a formidable foe, and certainly not a Diva to be trifled with. But would she stoop so low as to knock out Kaitlyn just to prove a point?

Delving even deeper into the cast of shady characters who might be out to get the up-and-coming Kaitlyn, a couple of high-profile names pop up. Back in late 2010 on NXT, Mr. Money in the Bank himself, Dolph Ziggler, was caught locking lips with Kaitlyn backstage. When Vickie Guerrero found out about the incident, she was irate.

Rushing backstage to confront Kaitlyn, Vickie pushed the NXT star, sending her into a crate. But Kaitlyn got the last laugh, countering Vickie’s shove by hurling a wedding cake at Guerrero. With such past grievances between the two, could it be that perhaps Vickie is secretly behind the Night of Champions attack on the former No. 1 contender? The quarrelsome Queen Diva has obviously shown a propensity toward such dastardly actions before, and maybe she has a long memory when it comes to Kaitlyn.

Again, though, not everything is always as it seems inside — or even around — the squared circle, and the possibility that someone or something far out of the norm had something to do with the attack can never be neglected. Is there someone out there we haven’t yet considered, possibly with a hidden grudge against Kaitlyn?

All we know for sure is someone was behind it, and eventually the guilty party — or parties — will be exposed.

For now, though, it’s still unclear as to just who attacked the Diva. What is clear is that Kaitlyn may have been unfairly robbed of the opportunity of a lifetime. When her injured ankle is back to full strength, will she regain her status as No. 1 contender, or will she be too preoccupied with getting payback for the Night of Champions assault?

The Suspects In Kaitlyn's Attack

For Kaitlyn, Night of Champions was supposed to be the turning point in an up-and-coming career, a moment when, years down the road, the WWE Universe could point to and say, "That was when things really took off." In the weeks leading up to the pay-per-view, the determined Diva had been on quite a role, winning a No. 1 Contender’s Divas Battle Royal and even overcoming the dominating Beth Phoenix. Heading into Sunday, she was primed and ready to challenge Layla for the prestigious Divas Championship.

Instead, what should have been a career-defining pay-per-view turned into a nightmare for the powerhouse challenger. That night, she was found writhing in pain backstage, nursing what was eventually diagnosed as a sprained ankle — an injury that forced Kaitlyn out of her Divas Title Match and, quite possibly, out of the Divas Title picture for some time to come.

In the wreckage of that now-lost opportunity, only frustration and questions remain. Frustration on the part of the fallen Diva and questions as to who conspired to train wreck her recent momentum.

Her assailant is still unknown, though WWE.com has been able to officially rule out Little Jimmy. Still, the motives are crystal clear. Someone obviously wanted Kaitlyn out of the running for the Divas Title, which has incited WWE.com to ask the question: Who attacked Kaitlyn?

Top Diva Set To Leave WWE

Could this be the end of the Glamazon?

Former WWE Divas and Women’s Champion, Beth Phoenix, is leaving WWE, reports PWInsider.
The website reports that Phoenix has given notice to the company and will be finishing up at the end of October.

Phoenix is a three-time WWE Women’s Champion, a one-time Divas Champion, and Slammy Award winner for Diva of the Year. Her Divas Title reign ended in April.

Beth’s reported departure would follow in the footsteps of the Bella Twins and Maxine who also left WWE this year. Meanwhile, Kelly Kelly has opted to take time away from the company.

A Look At Carmel Jacob

Before July’s Pro Wrestling: EVE‘s Special Edition show in July, Nikki Storm made the point that despite she being a WWE Diva and TNA Knockout, it was Kat Waters who was the one who was at the disadvantage. After all, she was the visiting team, and was entering unfamiliar territory. The same could be said of Angelina Love, who will wrestle Scotland’s Carmel Jacob on EVE’s Wrestle Fever show on November 10 - and Jacob will be flanked by her Glamour Gym partner Sara Marie Taylor, which puts the Canadian at a further detriment.

In addition, Jacob has been busy wrestling TNA & WWE talent recently, taking on former Knockouts, Women’s and Divas Champion Mickie James in singles and tag team matches last weekend, though came out on the losing end on both occasions.

To show Love what’s waiting for her, we have a video of one of Carmel’s matches from the summer, taking on Portugal’s Perfect Athlete Shanna, who also makes her return to EVE in November following a long period on the shelf with injuries, starting with a separated shoulder in the winter and then having her torn ACL repaired. This match took place for ABC Catch in late July, just 75 days after having the surgery on her right leg.

* Santana def. Sienna Duvall with a kick to the head followed by a handspring moonsault. Good opening match. Santana continues to impress in each of her showings.

* Leva Bates (as Sheriff Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead) def. Kimberly via superkick. Not as fun as Leva’s previous showings against Mercedes Martinez and Portia Perez. Rather slow, perhaps not as much chemistry. Good win for Leva, however, who is proving popular with the crowd.

* The West Coast Connection (Tracy Taylor & Su Yung) def. Rainbow Bright (Gabby Gilbert & Luscious Latasha) after Yung hit Gabby with a boot to the back and Taylor got the pin.

* Taylor Made (w/ Allysin Kay & April Hunter) def. Greek Barbie after interferences by April Hunter and Allysin Kay. Kay hit Barbie with a Samoan Drop and allowed Taylor to make the pin.

* Host Daffney had an in-ring segment with legends being honored by SHINE. Summary below by PWInsider:

Daffney is in the ring and she talks about the women’s wrestling legends that they are going to celebrate tonight. Daffney introduces Lexie Fyfe. She asks for the Legends to come into the ring.
The first person to be honored is Sabrina. The next person honored is Diane Von Hoffman. The next legend honored is Joyce Grable. The final honoree is LeiLani Kai.

SHINE 3 Full Results

SHINE Wrestling hits iPPV this evening for its third monthly instalment with nods to the past, present and future.

For the past, the promotion is honouring stars from yesteryear; the present is the card (which we will run down in just a moment); and the future is the announcement on the show which will affect both SHINE and big sister promotion SHIMMER: Women Athletes.

The big matches on the show see Jazz take on Rain, while Jazz’s rival Mercedes Martinez meets Jayme Jameson (plus Jazz and Martinez are banned from interacting), and Jessicka Havok steps into the ring against Mia Yim. Elsewhere, four women make their debuts (get more info on them here), and Made In Sin engage in their first singles matches in the promotion.

• SHINE 3 started with a very simple and tidy opening match between Santana Garrett & Sienna DuVall. DuVall kept it simple with the heel tactics, while Garrett’s handspring moonsault looked really good. Of the three opening match so far, this was the best.

• Leva Bates emerged as Rick Grimes from the Walking Dead for her match against Kimberly, who is acting more heelish with each show. Leva engaged in some technical wrestling and comedy to start, which popped the crowd at the Orpheum in Ybor City, FL, before Kimberly took over with some power moves including a giant swing and a spinebuster. Leva’s comeback was spirited – though a top rope effort saw her slip – with her hitting a big superkick for the 3. Bates is gathering momentum, while Kimberly is becoming someone to pay attention to.

• A very un-formulaic tag team match between the West Coast Connection and Rainbow Bright in that neither team really got the heat on the other. Taylor and Yung got the win after a Coast To Coast, which is an Eat Defeat followed by a variation of the move to the back of the neck. Nothing that special about this.

• Greek Barbie started off with a lot of fire, which looked great, but was cut off by Taylor Made’s entourage of Allysin Kay and April Hunter on the outside. The first moment that Barbie started to mount her comeback, she was dragged to the outside and battered, but fought them off to get back into the ring. However, the numbers game proved too much, as while Hunter distracted the ref, Kay snuck into the ring to nail a Samoan Drop to allow Taylor to get the match-winning pin. This was the best match I’ve seen out of Barbie.

• Jayme Jameson worked heel along with Mercedes Martinez, which didn’t really help to get the Latina Sensation’s top antagonist position over at the start – plus, the fans didn’t know if they should be cheering for anyone. Martinez used a lot of hard kicks and strikes, while Jameson was more prissy, but employed a little babyface fire later on, and shocked the audience with some kick outs from some big moves. Near the end, Jazz came to ringside which distracted Martinez, who had her Fisherman Buster countered with a small package for the upset pin. I hope Jameson is pushed as a babyface as a result…

• Jessicka Havok v Mia Yim was full on – these two women went for it and battered each other with kicks, with Havok using her shins while Yim used the sole of the foot. Near the end, the action spilled to the outside with Yim nailing a top rope moonsault to the floor for a very close near fall, but missed the subsequent SkyYim attempt, allowing Jessicka to hit the Air Raid Crash for the win. Like with last month, Havok attacked her opponent after the bell. This was the match of the night.

• Christina Von Eerie’s offence looked very shaky at the start, but improved as the contest went on, though the match got better when Kay was in control. However, a scary-looking belly to belly suplex from the top rope saw Kay almost land on her head and came close to breaking her neck. After that, I couldn’t get back into it. The contest ended a couple of moves later with the variation of a back suplex after Von Eerie was distracted by Taylor Made and April Hunter.

• The main event was beautifully simple storytelling. Jazz injured her left arm by charging at Rain on the outside and hit the ringpost, and then Rain worked on that body part for about 7 minutes with stretches and holds. At no point did this become boring. During her comeback, Jazz was still selling the shoulder, and as she tried to get the submission with the Bitch Clamp, Martinez arrived at ringside to return the favour from earlier. However, Jazz wasn’t so easily distracted and countered a sneaky Yakuza Kick attempt by Rain into the STF for the tap out, which mightily pissed Mercedes off. A match that was economical with moves, which worked because both Jazz and Rain are so good. For mat fans, you’ll prefer this to Havok v Yim.

On paper, SHINE 3 looked to be a placeholder show to keep things warm ahead of SHINE 4, which will likely see a number of SHIMMER regulars appear – for example, the aforementioned Saraya, Hailey Hatred and Kellie Skater have been on SHINE’s roster page for some time – and look to forward the development of the Martinez/Jazz programme as well as solidify the Made In Sin, Havok and Bates pushes. As well as all those things, it also gave Jameson her most high-profile win over main event talent, which gives the promotion a chance to push a new name down the line. Wrestling-wise, this was a thumbs-up show, if not the most high-profile of the three so far – if you missed it, it’s your call if you want to catch the replay, but it’s not exactly a must-buy. All roads now lead to SHINE 4 in a month with Saraya v Jazz, which will headline what is likely to be a pretty stacked card.

Greek Barbie is debuting against Taylor Made, Sienna Duvall takes on Santana Garrett, while Rainbow Bright will take on the returning West Coast Connection. Also at Shine 3, the main event participants of Shine 2 (Jazz & Mercedes Martinez) have been fined and are being kept apart on this show, with Jazz facing Rain in the main event, and Mercedes Martinez meeting Jayme Jameson. In addition, hot off injuring Reby Sky at Shine 2, Jessicka Havok will meet the challenge of Mia Yim, crowd favourite Leva Bates is scheduled to face Kimberly, while Allysin Kay will battle Christina Von Eerie.
There will be an announcement made which will affect the futures of both Shine and SHIMMER, and four lady wrestlers of the past will be honoured as part of the event.

Rosita Talks TNA Status

Infrequently seen Knockout, Rosita, has updated fans on her status with TNA, insisting that she is still with the company despite not being used on TV since April.

Rosita, real name Thea Trinidad, told the Busted Open radio show:

Unfortunately it has been awhile, and I know everyone was going crazy a couple weeks ago when it came to me being taking off the knock outs gallery page, but, I will finally tell all of you, I am still with TNA. I will hopefully be brought back soon. I am doing a lot more training and a lot of fresh new things. If I do come, relatively soon back to TNA, there will a new finisher, and a whole new look really. It’s going be very fresh, very new. No matter where you see me, whether it is TNA or independent show you’re going to get all of me and I guarantee you it’s something you’re going to want to see.
 

Rosita also reveals that she looked up to Lita and dedicates her moonsault to her:

Most of them were guys, but there was one female wrestler that I look up to completely, and that’s where my finisher, the moonsault came from, it’s in dedication to Lita. Right off the bat, I remember seeing Rey Mysterio, a long time ago, and he was the one I was like, “wow I want to be just like him!” I want to be the female Rey Mysterio, mask or not I want to do what he can. So Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero, Halloween Havoc 97’ was my favorite match, it was absolutely awesome. I definitely say those two. I always liked Shawn Michaels, there was something about that dance, besides the fact he was amazing, I think when I was younger I was like that dance is awesome, that little shimmy he does with his hips. Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, HBK, and the Hardy’s. When I was younger I went through a little bit of a rocker stage and it was because of them.

Rhia O'Reilly Has An Issue With HONOUR

Sometimes, even with the best intentions, you can still raise the ire of someone, and that’s exactly what has happened with HONOUR‘s article about the new partnership between Rhia O’Reilly and Amazon Ayesha Ray. She took to YouTube to talk about how she is not merely the instigator of fights and leaves them for Ray to finish, displaying her newly-won WAWW British Championship as proof that she can get it done by herself.

The Wrestle-Dirt Dirt Sheet (September 19th, 2012)

“Lesson to men: Cheat on a good woman, You get choked out.”

No joke – those were the first words that Tammy Lynn Sytch decided to make public on her Facebook page after being arrested three times in three days last week on domestic violence complaints. Seeing as legal proceedings are underway, this was a colossally dumb thing to do, as it’s pretty much an admission of guilt. How about “Lesson to men: Cheat on a good woman, you get dumped.”

According to TMZ – and later picked up by the Associated Press and local TV media outlets – the 39-year old WWE Hall of Famer was first arrested by police in Branford, CT, on Tuesday night at 8:55pm for disorderly conduct involving a man living in the house she was with, which was later confirmed to be the home of boyfriend and pro wrestler Damian Darling. It apparently all began with a heated argument between the couple.

She was released Wednesday morning on a $500 bond, but was then arrested a second time at 4:49pm on similar charges on disorderly conduct charges involving a strangulation incident with Darling, as well as violating a restraining order. Sytch was then released on Thursday on a $25,000 bond, but was arrested for a third time at 8pm on Thursday night for violating the same restraining order involving Darling again. She was released on a $2,500 bond.

At the third bail hearing, it was revealed that WWE was prepared to pay for her to go to rehab for a fourth time – despite her finishing her third stint at the end of last month and was said to be fully clean from her alcohol issues. She is said to have been sent there straight away, but was seen making posts on her Facebook page since then.

Back in May, we documented how Sytch – along with fellow impending train wreck Chyna – was on a slippery slope after missing a number of scheduled appearances at wrestling shows. It emerged that she was dealing with an alcohol addiction and took part in an RF Video shoot the day before going into rehab where she seemingly admitted everything and had hit rock bottom. Upon her release from rehab, she got back into the swing of things, appeared on the Evolve show in Florida a week ago and had also recently filmed an On The Road diary DVD for RF. The former Sunny hit the skids again, and in such a repeated and public fashion does no good for her standing, as well as rendering the rehab she undertook as redundant. However, WWE will agree to offer her as much help as she needs. In a statement to TMZ, the company said “As part of WWE’s Former Talent Program, we sent Ms. Sytch to rehabilitation three times, with all costs covered by WWE. Unfortunately, Ms. Sytch continues to make poor personal choices. WWE will continue to provide assistance should she want to take advantage of it.” Let’s face it – she hasn’t had as many rehabs as Scott Hall, and alcohol addiction must be hard to shift considering how readily available it is compared to other addictive substances.

It is a massive shame for someone who calls herself the Original Diva – and there is an argument to say that she is, even though Sensational Sherri was more physical and exiting while Miss Elizabeth’s sparingly used interactions generated a bigger buzz. I remember going to my first WWF show in 1996 in Birmingham, England and buying a Sunny t-shirt as a souvenir. It was too big, was totally inappropriate for a teenager to wear, but it was mine, and I owned it for years. She was just one of three WWF’s pin-up girls, as they only had three at the time (the others being Rena “Sable” Lesnar and Terri “Marlena” Runnels) and certainly injected a bit of glamour into the machismo of wrestling. While she may inflate her influence a bit, she certainly played her part well in the WWF at the time before finding recreation substances and embarking on a slippery slope.

However, considering the tragedies that she has suffered because of wrestling (most notably the death of her longtime other half Chris Candido in 2005 because of a freak blood clot) which sent her spiral down even further, it must be a constant reminder of what she has lost by still being involved in the business. For that reason, if I was to offer Sytch some advice, it would be simple, yet tough at the same time – get out of wrestling. Completely.

That means no boyfriend, no being booked at shows, no signing appearances or conventions, nothing. Get away from it all, and start to lead a “normal” life, as there are too many temptations, bad influences and harsh memories waiting to pounce on her. To escape from it all, start anew – after all, she turns 40 in December, and that’s when life apparently begins – and construct a new life. I’m not saying it would be easy, but it could see her avoid further issues with the law, and see her attain some genuine happiness. Tammy, you’ve given enough to wrestling, and we thank you for that, but don’t become a statistic or a sideshow. Be a born-again wrestling success, not another tragedy.

The women of Japan certainly turned some heads at CHIKARA’s annual King Of Trios event in Easton, PA over the weekend. With three teams featuring joshi talent, there was a big opportunity for fans who may not have watched JoshiMania last year to be introduced to wrestlers other than Manami Toyota (who returned to the promotion to once again team with Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw). As a result, Team JWP ( Commando Bolshoi, Kaori Yoneyama & Tsubasa Kuragaki) and Team Sendai Girls (Meiko Satomura, DASH Chisako & Sendai Sachiko) got involved, and weren’t just there to make up the numbers.

All three teams made it through the first round, and while the JWP contingent was put out on day two by F.I.S.T., Sendai Girls managed to advance to the semi finals on day three by taking out Toyota and company, before falling at that point by Team ROH of the Young Bucks and Mike Bennett, who was accompanied by his girlfriend and tiny clothes-wearer Maria Kanellis.

Many wrestlers and fans who had not experienced their work took to Twitter and Facebook to sing the praises of the joshi contingent and insisting that they should not be overlooked because of their gender. We have the chance to see what they mean, as all three nights have already been released by Smart Mark Video.

Back in February 1974, 19-year old Patty Hearst and her boyfriend and her boyfriend Steven Weed were kidnapped in California by self-styled left-wing group the Symbionese Liberation Army, with the SLA demanding the release of several of its members from prison. More wranglings followed when that failed, but the big revelation came two months later when Hearst decided to join the SLA’s cause.

Two weeks later, she participated in a bank robbery under the pseudonym of Tania and a warrant was issued for arrest. She was arrested in September 1975, and described herself as an urban guerilla. At her trial in early 1976, Hearst was convicted of bank robbery and was sentenced to 35 years, which was cut to 7, but she was released after having served 22 months after being commuted by President Jimmy Carter. In 2001, she was given a full pardon by President Clinton.

She was pardoned as it was believed that she had been brainwashed into sympathising, siding with and becoming attached to her captors as part of a traumatic bonding known as Stockholm Syndrome, so she was not held accountable for her actions. The reason why this is being brought up is because the same thing seems to have happened to Kaori Yoneyama.

Back on April 22, Yoneyama was forced to join Emi Sakura’s impending Thailand promotion (now known as Gatoh Move) after being defeated by the former Ice Ribbon founder in 31 seconds at JWP’s 20th Anniversary show. Despite being a captor of the stipulation, the pair successfully teamed up two weeks later to win the JWP and Daily Sports Women’s Tag Team Championships from Command Bolshoi and Rabbit Mito, and held them until August 18. Meanwhile, Sakura and Yoneyama competed in a number of exhibition matches in Bangkok to hype the new promotion, and it appeared that instead of feeling like a prisoner, Kaori was actually enjoying herself. Well, it appears that instead of seeing herself as a JWP wrestler, she now considers herself to be part of Gatoh Move – as do Morii & Hanako Nakamori, who have also wrestled on Gatoh Move cards. After making her intentions clear, Yoneyama and partner Sakura were attacked by the JWP locker room before making their escape. It seems as if Emi Sakura’s influence is seeping into JWP, and an infiltration (and possible hostile takeover) is in progress.

The JWP show on October 7 will see Sakura, Yoneyama, Morii & Nakamori take part in an 8-woman tag match against Command Bolshoi, Kayoko Haruyama, Arisa Nakajima & Manami Katsu, which could have a lot of hostility to it. Or, could we see another JWP member jump ship?

It is all very intriguing. The infiltration is reminiscent of the Outsiders/New World Order storyline from WCW (which was lifted from a New Japan Pro Wrestling storyline anyway) and also features the sort of mental manipulation that was handled in such a cack-handed way by TNA in the Winter & Angelina Love storyline. JWP and Gatoh Move may now have the most interesting prospects in joshi at the moment – and to think that Emi Sakura started the year leaving Ice Ribbon and having next to no direction…

Natalya beat Alicia Fox with the Sharpshooter on Superstars, even though Fox was on the heel team on Raw alongside Natalya & Beth Phoenix for no reason. Natalya played face, as they were in Canada. The crowd popped huge when Natalya’s music played, as the fans thought it was Bret Hart coming out because their tunes share the same guitar riff, though the match was wrestled in near silence, which was sad… Congratulations to Eve Torres, who got engaged last week to jiu-jitsu expert Rener Gracie. Torres also ended up winning the Divas Championship from Layla after Kaitlyn ended up being mysteriously injured earlier on the Night Of Champions PPV. WWE is saying that Kaitlyn suffered a torn tendon. I’d say she’s suffering from a crushed dream… Rosa Mendes did not accompany Primo & Epico in their match on Saturday Morning Slam. Word is she may be too risque for a G-rated show… Cameron Lynn has returned to TV following her legal issues last month.

TNA

Taeler Hendrix won her Gut Check spot on June 28. She is yet to make her debut as a Knockout. She made a little noise on Twitter about how she and Cherry Bomb would go after the tag team belts… There had been rumours that Rosita had been released because her photos had been taken off the website at the start of last week. However, the pictures were restored by Thursday… Taryn Terrell is booked for a convention, which is one of her first gigs since leaving WWE. She was due to wrestle Taylor Wilde in Wilde’s last match in February last year but was pulled, reportedly because of her demands… Tara turned heel on Miss Tessmacher in an angle that everyone could see coming from a mile away on Impact last week. Not that it matters, as it was the right thing to do to set up a rematch between the two. The pair have also started working together on house shows to prepare for their next big match… Katarina “Winter” Waters granted an interview with Running The Ropes where she tried to make the Angelina Love drugging storyline seem logical (it failed), playing hot potato with the Knockouts title and how it hurt both her and the title’s credibility and how she’s looking to get out of wrestling and into acting… Brooke Hogan dyed her hair black. No idea why.

North America

Former Divas Champion Jillian Hall (yes, she held it, remember?) and Melina will wrestle at East Coast Pro Wrestling this week… Chyna wrote a piece about how she found out that her then-fiance Triple H was cheating on him with his now-wife Stephanie McMahon. She claimed she called Vince McMahon after finding a love letter from Stephanie around May of 2001, and was soon told to take time off. She never returned. She also claimed that the WWF tried to blacklist her from the entertainment industry… GLOW creator David McLane’s Women Of Wrestling promotion says it’s casting for its new series, with one of their new performers being someone called Taylor Made, and it’s not the Taylor Made who wrestles for SHINE. Seriously, with this and the Wrestling’s Femme Fatales debacle, is GLOW intent on stepping on toes these days?… Yumi Ohka, Christina Von Eerie, Athena & Allysin Kay have been officially announced for SHIMMER next month. Kay had already been announced as part of SHINE 1, while Von Eerie & Athena were already booked to be part of the AAW event the day before the tapings… Mercedes Martinez and Jazz won’t be wrestling each other at SHINE 3 this Friday and are also banned from any physical interaction during the card. Instead, Jazz will take on Rain while Martinez will wrestle Jayme Jameson. The other matches are Jessicka Havok v Mia Yim (expect Yim to be battered to be written out of the storylines while she does to Japan and to get Havok even more over after destroying Reby Sky last month) and Kimberly v Leva Bates… SHINE says it will honour legends in women’s wrestling on Friday too… Amber O’Neal makes her CHIKARA debut on October 7 against Saturyne… Kellie Skater meets Sassy Stephie on the CWF Mid Atlantic iPPV on October 20… Jessie Brooks issued an open challenge for WSU’s Full Steam Ahead show. It was answered by Addy Starr. It has also been announced that Jessicka Havok will face Mark Angel in a match between the best of WSU against the best of Beyond Wrestling as part of the day’s entertainment… Veda Scott ate a Kevin Steen superkick as part of the main event of Ring Of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor iPPV… It took two Saturday Night Specials to do it, but Heidi Lovelace is the new OVW Women’s Champion.

Japan

Eri Susa missed Stardom’s show yesterday because of an injury to her arm… MsChif will challenge Hailey Hatred for the Remix Pro Wrestling Women’s Championship at Joshi4Hope 4 on October 7 in Tokyo. Veda Scott will also make her Japanese debut on the show against impressive Stardom rookie Yuhi… Nanae Takahashi has finally been beaten in Stardom, at the hands of Yuzuki Aikawa.

Europe

It’s a parade of champions for the HEW Women’s Title match on September. Champion Sweet Saraya defends against WAWW British titleholder Liberty, EWW Women’s Champion Skarlett and Lady Lory… Scotland’s Fiona Fraser has been announced for Pro Wrestling: EVE… Erin Angel regained the SWF Women’s Championship from Amazon Ayesha Ray… The match between Mickie James and Kay Lee Ray at Pro Wrestling Elite on Saturday went to a no-contest when Nikki Storm and Carmel Jacob interfered. A tag match subsequently followed, with KLR and James winning. On the second night, James defeated Jacob, while KLR pinned Storm… Destiny won the WAWW Queen of the Ring at Bellatrix 3 on Sunday after fellow finaling Sweet Saraya was distracted by Jetta. Elsewhere on the show, Rhia O’Reilly won the British Championship from Liberty. WAWW’s next show is being planned for November, and are planning to make it free entry to fill the arena as part of a showcase for potential investors who were at the show at the weekend.

Mexico

The luchadoras were in the opening match on CMLLs 79th anniversary show in Mexico City on Friday with Dalis la Caribeña, Goya Kong & Marcela taking on Amapola, Princesa Blanca & Tiffany. The technicas took the win in two straight falls, but Marcela held the ropes to get the match winning pin on Tiffany. Enraged, especially after losing her hair to her rival during the summer, Tiffany challenged Marcela to a singles match, which has been accepted.

RingStars announced this morning that Veda Scott will make her Japanese debut on October 7th at Joshi4Hope IV against Yuhi.

Veda Scott, an interviewer for Ring of Honor and a regular in SHIMMER (where she’s recently formed a fun tag team with Shazza McKenzie), made her professional wrestling debut in May 2011.

Yuhi – whose name translates to “sunset” – is a seventeen year old wrestler (sixteen when she made her debut). She only made her professional wrestling debut in April this year, for ZERO-1, in a match against Yuzuki Aikawa.

 

In other Joshi4Hope news, on the same show, Hiroyo Matsumoto and Ryo Mizunami will take on Arisa Nakajima and Aya Yuki, Mika Iida and Ayumi Kurihara will team up to take on Leon and Manami Katsu and Hailey Hatred will defend her Remix Pro Wrestling Women’s Championship against MsChif.

 

If you can recall, Hailey won that title from Sassy Stephie in early August. There was a bit of controversy surrounding this, as the day before, she had accepted an immediate offer to return to Japan – and she’d already announced that she would be deferring the AIW Women’s Title shot she would be next in line for, thanks to her impressive win-loss record in AIW. This could be an easy way to get the title back to the United States… and an excuse to have an awesome match in the process!

The show will take place at the Tokyo Cinema Club.

At the most recent AAA TV taping on September 16 at the Centro Civico de Ecatepec in Mexico, Gran Apache and Mari Apache beat Cuervo and Faby Apache with some help from Halloween. After the match, Halloween declared that he was in love with Mari and gave her flowers but she rejected him.

PWWA recently announced that an international talent would be making their way over to Australia for their October show… and that talent is none other than Ayesha Ray.

 

Following in the steps of Nicole Matthews last year, the former “Amazon” will make her Australian and PWWA debut on October 6th at the Casula Powerhouse in Sydney.

 

Ray challenged Alpha Female for the Pro Wrestling: EVE Championship in July at their “Special Edition” show but unfortunately came up short. Earlier in the evening, she formed a partnership with Rhia O’Reilly, and the two even defeated The Blossom Twins in tag team action.

 

Ray is also well known for her appearances with WAW and its sister promotion, WAWW. She became the number one contender to WAWW’s British Title in March – a title that is now currently held by her tag team partner Rhia – by winning a four woman tournament.

Amber O’Neal will make her CHIKARA debut on October 7th in a singles match against up-and-coming star Saturyne.

 

The show will take place at The New Mid-Atlantic Sportatorium in Gibsonville, NC.

Athena, Christina Von Eerie, Allysin Kay and Tomoka Nakagawa have all been confirmed for the SHIMMER tapings of volumes 49-52 on October 27 and 28th in Berwyn, IL.

 

Allysin Kay was confirmed early on in the game – her participation was announced at SHINE 1 – and she is the only one of those names who is yet to make her main show debut (which will indeed happen at these tapings). She wrestled on their SPARKLE pre-show back in October 2011.

Injury Update On Kaitlyn

WWE has issued an ‘injury update’ on Kaitlyn stemming from last night’s Night of Champions pay per view where she was attacked from behind prior to her Divas Title match with Layla.

WWE.com reports has a ‘torn tendon’, but won’t require surgery. She is supposedly due back in the ring in several weeks.

Of course, this is all part of the storyline. This isn’t the first time WWE has pulled a Diva injury angle this year, with Beth Phoenix suffering an ankle injury, also.

Yumi Okha Joins SHIMMER Tapings

So, we’ve had Hiroyo Matsumoto, Ryo Mizunami, Kana and Tomoka Nakagawa, and now Yumi Ohka has been added to the list of Japanese grapplers making the trip to SHIMMER: Women Athletes for the next DVD tapings on October 26-27.

This will be Ohka’s second venture to SHIMMER, with her debut taking place last October as part of the volumes 41-44 tapings, defeating Courtney Rush and Mia Yim, and falling to Serena Deeb and Sara Del Rey. She impressed fans with her speed, kicks and glamorous exterior, which lends itself to her origins as an “athtress” – a model who was taught how to wrestle, and has been doing it for a decade.

The week after SHIMMER, Ohka made her Canadian debut at nCw Femmes Fatales VII in a losing effort against newly-crowned SHIMMER Champion Cheerleader Melissa before returning to Japan and the Black Dahlia faction in Pro Wrestling WAVE and entered the 2012 Catch The Wave in the Black Dahlia block, but the group came unstuck after drawing with the White Tails and raising the ire of Dahlia leader Misaki Ohata after drawing Mika Iida, and saw the group separate into two generations, with the veteran Ohka leading the older side of the equation. The entire group had to disband after their own show drew less fans than the White Tails show, and Ohka eventually fell to Ohata in a singles contest on August 26.

Ohka returns to SHIMMER with a record of 2-2, which is tantamount to a clean slate. Next month, the 33-year old has the chance to forge a way through the promotion’s ranks. We’ll find out just what impact she will have in less than six weeks.

Night Of Champions Results: Eve Wins Divas Title

WWE Divas Champion Layla was set to defend the title against number one contender Kaitlyn, but a spanner was thrown in the works after the pay-per-view went on the air…

The Background

• Kaitlyn became the number one contender by winning a battle royale on the August 20 episode of Raw, last eliminating Eve Torres.

• Torres started to be really friendly to both champion and challenger in the build up to their title match, being ultra-supportive and overly-happy to gain their trust, but both were suspicious of her intentions.

• Kaitlyn scored the biggest win of career by pinning Beth Phoenix clean with a reverse DDT on last week’s SmackDown.

• However, after Night Of Champions went on the air, we were shown shots of Kaitlyn on the ground having suffered an attack to her ankle, forcing her out of her title challenge.

• Torres went to SmackDown GM Booker T to ask for her to be the replacement in the match, which Booker agreed to. After all, it’s Night Of Champions, and all belts HAVE to be defended – so Layla was left to face a brand new opponent with less than an hour’s notice…

The Match

• The titleholder started out showing off her technical skill and countering Torres’ attempts to get the advantage. However, a low dropkick which stunned Eve saw Layla show sympathy, and that was the opening that the challenger needed.

• After delivering a cheap shot, Torres threw her opponent out of the ring, attacked the ribs on the floor and continued the assault in the ring, showing off that under the happy and supportive veil, she was still a heel.

• Eve’s attempts to wear the champion down couldn’t earn her the submission, and gave Layla the chance to fight back with a DDT and some clotheslines. However, she missed her springboard crossbody, which gave Torres the chance to hit a swinging neckbreaker for the pinfall and win the Divas title for a record-breaking third time.

Thoughts:

• It’s another Divas title change by WWE when the replacement takes the belt because of an injury to the scheduled opponent. If you recall, it’s the exact same way that Layla won the strap back in April at Extreme Rules, when Phoenix could not challenge Nikki Bella – except that this time, Layla was the victim of the change, and not the beneficiary.

• WWE finally got the match that it originally wanted. According to reports, Kaitlyn was not meant to win the battle royale, and the shot was always meant to go to Eve. So they managed to write her out and put Torres in. Fine, but why wait until people had bought the show to do it – could this have not happened on free TV instead so that there wasn’t the bait-and-switch?

• As for the match, it was one of the better Divas matches – and probably the best in Layla’s reign – because everything was kept simple. Part of that was down to the ground attack by Torres, who utilised her jiu-jitsu experience with things like triangle body scissors and triangle chokes.

• Layla was colossally stupid in the match by showing compassion to Eve after the dropkick. All this time, she has been skeptical of Eve’s sincerity and wondering what her true agenda is, then gets sucked in at the first opportunity. No wonder people don’t want to cheer babyfaces – they show huge flashes of stupidity.

• Also, thank the heavens that Layla’s reign is over. It’s done nothing for the belt and she has been as fun as your average day in Guantanamo Bay.

• With Eve as champ, we may see Layla have a run at the belt, which should be more interesting than her holding it, and we also need clarification on who attacked Kaitlyn, though it’s pretty clear who the number one suspect is – the woman who ended up benefiting and taking the belt, perhaps?

Full Night Of Champions Divas Title Match Results

WWE Divas Title Match: Eve Torres vs. Layla

We go to the ring and out first comes WWE Divas Champion Layla. Her opponent Eve Torres is out next. They lock up and Layla gets the quick roll up. Eve comes back with a headlock takedown. They go to the mat and Layla applies a head scissors. Back to their feet and Layla arm drags Eve across the ring. They lock up again and Eve works on Layla's arm and Layla does the same. More back and forth with them trading holds. Eve gets busted in the mouth and takes a minute to regroup. They come back and go to shake hands but Eve hits her with a cheap shot. Eve tosses Layla out of the ring and follows her. Eve slams Layla's head on the floor and slams her into the apron. Eve with another shot into the apron before rolling her in at the 8 count. Eve works on Layla's ribs now as the referee backs her off. Eve grabs Layla by her hair and throws her into the corner. Eve with a knee to the back of the head as the referee backs her off again. Eve goes to the top with a headlock, picking Layla up off her feet with it. Eve with a 2 count before going to a leg scissors. Eve turns it into a head scissors and uses that to slam Layla on her face. Eve grabs the ropes for leverage and the hold is finally broken. Layla counters a neckbreaker and drops Eve with a DDT. Layla makes a comeback and dropkicks Eve in the face. Layla with a clothesline and a face slam. Layla springboards out of the corner with a crossbody but Eve moves. Eve with a big neckbreaker for the win and the title. 

Winner and New WWE Divas Champion: Eve Torres

- After the match, Eve celebrates with the title as we go to replays. We see Layla crying on the mat as JBL says there's no crying in wrestling.

Eve Replaces Kaitlyn, Wins Divas Championship

Eve managed to defeat Layla at Night of Champions 2012 to win the WWE Divas Championship.

Kaitlyn was originally scheduled to battle Layla after winning a battle royal several weeks ago, but she was attacked backstage and unable to compete. While we didn't get to see who attacked her, it's quite obvious that it was Eve who attacked her, or at least was the mastermind behind the attack to make sure she received a title shot.

Eve started 2012 hotter than any Diva on the current roster, as she was in the midst of a main-event storyline with John Cena, Kane and Zack Ryder. At WrestleMania, she cost Ryder and Team Teddy Long their match for brand supremacy when she was aligned with Johnny Ace.

After being pushed to the back burner on WWE programming in favor of AJ Lee, WWE is finally giving Eve her due credit. Though Eve would have been a far superior general manager for RAW than AJ, fans can rest assured that one of the most skilled Divas on the roster is back in the spotlight after winning the Divas Championship.

Layla has been impressive inside the squared circle compared to where she started her career, but she has been a lackluster face champion. The WWE Divas division desperately needs some spice, and Eve is the perfect woman to inject that excitement as she can not only carry herself in the ring, but she's also a high-quality worker on the mic.

Considering how much support WWE has put behind Eve this year, it's only fitting she ends 2012 carrying the most prestigious women's title in the business.
