Pro Wrestling: EVE has officially announced a show on July 14 in Sudbury, UK, calling it a “special edition” show which will feature the debut of TNA’s Winter – who is a German-born Briton – and two returns – we have strong suspicions on who the returns will be – as well as “one time only” and “must see” matches.

In its press release that it released to Diva Dirt, EVE also points out that running a weekend of shows without iPPV would have “hurt EVE financially and potentially risk the company due to the restricted income without iPPV”. That’s a telling statement – which actually PRECEDED the announcement of Winter being part of the show – and implies that financially, EVE is lean at the moment.

The show will also feature three men’s contests, making it a split show of sorts. It claims it will draw the fans of the men’s promotions and give them a taste of women’s wrestling at the same time. It’s the same ethos that led to having the Jenny Sjodin v Alpha Female match at the London charity show in April, which is where Alpha won the title.
In theory, this makes sense – draw non-women’s wrestling fans in with what they are familiar with and then give them a taste of EVE’s product while they’re there. However, there is also the possibility of it dissuading EVE fans who may not be interested in the men’s matches. There is the possibility that the ones there for EVE won’t be hugely taken with the men’s contests, as that’s not what they’ve paid to see, and vice versa for the fans of the guys.

At the time, we received a number of comments from fans about how they were disappointed with the most recent title change – not the fact that it happened, as the reception for Alpha taking the title was met with positivity, but the fact that it happened on a show that wasn’t a full blown EVE card. There have been two title EVE changes in the title’s existence, with Jenny Sjodin beating Britani Knight (now Paige) on an XWA show, and the Sjodin to Alpha switch, neither of which took place in front of the die-hard EVE supporters. A couple questioned whether it was worth going to the main shows if all the big moments take place elsewhere. A dilution of full-blown EVE cards may not be endearing to the promotion’s devoted supporters. Having said that, a trade off with some strong supporters for some curious new audience members may be something that EVE may be happy with.

One would expect Nikki Storm to challenge Alpha for the EVE title on the show, considering she earned the number one contender spot back in February by winning the Queen of the Ring tournament, defeating Hannah Blossom, Viper and Kay Lee Ray to extend her massive win streak and ascend from being the Dynamite Princess to the Dynamite Queen in the process. We may also get a continuation of the EVE Tag Team Championship tournament, which was originally meant to take place on the February show but had to be postponed due to the title belts not arriving in time. Instead, the tourney started at the end of April as a guest match on an IPW:UK show with Hannah and Holly Blossom defeating Storm and Shanna. Another tournament match has not been announced, but July’s show seems to be the logical place to have the next, if not before.

Incidentally, EVE has been saying that the DVDs which have yet to be released – the finals of the title tournament from last April and the three EVE v Ice Ribbon cards from October, as well as the iPPV it ran back in February – are soon to become available. However in Japan, the EVE v Ice Ribbon shows are already for sale with a price of ¥5,000 for the lot, which equates to about £40 in the UK or $60 in the US, even before shipping costs. While those prices seem a bit steep, at least it is available to buy.

The roster for SHINE Wrestling is starting to take shape, and the swell thing about it is that the caliber of wrestlers who have signed up is suitably high, while costs are being kept comparatively low.

So far, six wrestlers have been announced for SHINE 1 on July 20 in Ybor City, FL, and of them, four of them live in the state. Sara Del Rey, Santana Garrett, Christina Von Eerie and Leva Bates are all local talent, while Jazz and Reby Sky are a short flight away. Economically, everything makes sense so far.

When asked, promoter Sal Hamaoui revealed that the roster for the first iPPV is now set, so expect more names to be announced on a regular basis. A quick look at the names who say on the Facebook events page set up for the show include Rain, April Hunter, Mercedes Justine and Miss Rachel – though that does not necessarily mean that they will be on the show, as they may be there to offer support or simply be there to watch with the other fans who will attend the show at the Orpheum.
Two other Florida-based names which haven’t cropped up yet are Kimberly and Mercedes Martinez, so there is an outside chance that they may be included too. Regardless, things are falling into place rather nicely.

Weird – Layla hasn’t been on TV since she successfully defended the Divas Title against Beth Phoenix at Over The Limit on May 20… Kc Spinelli’s debut at nCw Femmes Fatales IX on July 7 will be against Cheerleader Melissa. That’s some debut… When asked on Twitter, Lance Storm admitted that Tenille Tayla never signed a WWE developmental contract. It was apparently because of her shoulder injury which required surgery… nCw Femmes Fatales put out a call for a wrestler to travel to Montreal for Femmes Fatales IX in July. Recent SPARKLE debutant Angelus Layne was selected to join the roster. Speaking on Layne, she will wrestle MsChif in AAW on June 22… Crazy Mary Dobson (best known for her matches at AIW Girls Night Out) will be travelling to Japan to train with REINAxWORLD over the summer… Tsukasa Fujimoto defeated Kurumi to win the IW19 Championship on Friday. That victory meant Fujimoto became the first person to win every title that Ice Ribbon has to offer… TNA brought in Mickie James and Tara for the first live Impact last Thursday, but were not used on the show. The likelihood is that the show overran, which is usually does when it is taped, though no editing can be done in post-production, so the segment was reportedly dropped… Rosa Mendes returned to WWE at a Raw event in Alexandria, LA on Friday. She had been sidelined with severe whiplash which she suffered 13 days previously in Las Vegas… David McLane, who was the mind behind GLOW, is looking to create a reality show called WOW Girls, which would follow him trying to resurrect the Women Of Wrestling promotion… Trinity, who was with TNA for the first three years of the promotion before joining the WWE revival of ECW, put a post on her Facebook page saying “I gotta go back to wrestling”. In recent years, she has got into roller derby… AAA’s TripleMania XX will take place on August 5 in Mexico City, Mexico. It’s likely to see the culmination of the feud between sisters Fabi and Mari Apache… Velvet Sky tweeted that she and her boyfriend Chris Sabin are accepting independent bookings together… UK’s NWA Hammerlock promotion has started its own tournament over the next 12 months to crown its first ever women’s champion. Rhia O’Reilly defeated Amazon in the first match… Epiphany won the OVW Women’s Championship from Taeler Hendrix on Saturday. Hendrix had held the belt since last November… Mia Svensson was crowned the first ever AIWF Women’s Champion by beating Aida Marie… Scott Armstrong’s daughter Kayla tweeted that she will be getting a tryout. Shouting about it online won’t endear her to management, though having a father who is a WWE referee and having an uncle who is a former WWF Tag Team Champion and a current road agent (Road Dogg), she is probably a shoo-in for a developmental deal… The former Bella Twins made their first indie appearance since leaving WWE on Saturday. Nicole was in Luke Robinson’s corner, while Brianna sided with Jerry Lawler. Both left with Lawler at the end… Rookie high-flier Saturyne impressed so greatly in her DQ win alongside Sara Del Rey against the Batiri at Chikarasaurus Rex that Twitter was abuzz with calls for her to be booked in SHIMMER… Buggy Nova is moving to Florida… Kana and Mio Shirai will be wrestling and signing autographs at the massive Japan Expo event taking place in Paris, France between July 5 and 8…

Ayumi Kurihara lost and regained the DDT Iron Man Heavymetalweight Championship at the promotion’s June Special show on Sunday… Sara Marie Taylor has been added to the ICW: Fierce Females roster… There’s another joshi promotion being launched. Called Tokyo Women’s Wrestling, it is looking to recruit budding grapplers aged between 15 and 25. It’s also being headed up in part by former Ice Ribbon GM Tetsuya Koda, who reportedly resigned from the promotion last week. That’s new information that we didn’t have when yesterday’s article was posted… Absolute Intense Wrestling tweeted that it is going to have to get some Bad Medicine by Bon Jovi ready for Girls Night Out 7 on August 4. That can only mean one person… Riho earned the right to face any wrestler she wished for her match at Ice Ribbon TEENS 6 on June 16. She selected World Of Stardom Champion Nanae Takahashi, which is one hell of a bold request.
